Tom Gregg

Tom Gregg is a still life painter who seems to be influenced by the great Wayne Thibaud. His colors are pushed to full saturation, yet there is still something very contemplative once you've gotten over the initial shock of his neon colors or strange juxtapositions (grenades and kewpie dolls?) He doesn't have a website (why not Tom?) but you can see his work on the George Billis gallery's website.

Russell Gordon www.GordonArtStudio.com paints some really butt-kicking lemons. Like an animation artist he seems to add a slight bit of anthropomorphism to his fruit, and just where another artist might venture into mawkishness Russell saves the day with his incredible ability to render light, form. and color, in a way that is mesmerizing!

Devin Cecil-Wishing

     Devin Cecil-Wishing  www.devincecil-wishing.com makes some really standout lemons! When I was a student one of my instructors used to tell me to "smash the light". Devin smashes the light and then some. His lemons seem to glow from within. He's so good at capturing light effects that I could really learn to hate him if I didn't like his work so much.

Welcome To My New Art Blog

 I was inspired by the blog www.womenpaintingwomen.blogspot.com to come up with an idea for male artists to be featured. I thought of a few titles, "Men Painting Women", "Men Painting Men", "Men Painting Dogs", but none of them seemed right. The idea behind "Women Painting Women" is to feature paintings that have a different point of view than the traditional "male gaze", which objectifies women. This blog is about the way that male artist's look at and make art about lemons. Do we objectify lemons? I'm not sure (aren't lemons already objects?) Do we look at lemons differently from women? Do we see sour fruit and they see lemonade? Regardless of these deep and meaningful questions, there are quite a few really good artists who have painted lemons at one time or another. Because of those lecherous old artists of the past we have been excluded from a pretty cool blog (Women Painting Women) that features a great group of artists, so here's our chance to shine!
